Construction of Solar-Plus-Storage Project Underway

Construction is underway on a solar-plus-storage project in Burt and Dodge Counties.

Tekamah, NE— 3/3/2021Bluestem Energy Solutions announced this week that it is constructing the first utility-scale solar-plus-storage project to be built in tandem in Nebraska. With the addition of a 2 MW solar array and a 6 MWh battery energy storage system, Burt County Public Power District will soon be the second Nebraskan utility to add battery storage to its energy portfolio. The solar-plus-storage project is a public-private partnership between BCPPD and the Omaha-based renewable energy solutions company.

The project, owned and operated by Bluestem Energy Solutions, will interconnect directly into BCPPD’S power distribution network with all the generated electricity being used locally. The facility will be located on land in Burt and Dodge Counties.

“Not only will this project provide locally generated clean power to Burt County PPD and their members, but it will also be a first in the state for a combined solar-and-battery storage project making the solar power more dispatchable for Burt PPD when they need it most,” said Will Crane, the Director of Project Management at Bluestem.

The project is slated to be online and generating electricity for BCPPD’s service area no later than the end of the second quarter in 2021.
